LOVELLS CHAPEL CHURCH HISTORY
By the Grace of God, Lovells Chapel Church Inc. is a strong church with our hearts and mind fixed on Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith. We enjoy sharing the love and blessings of God with others, so we extend an open door invitation to you to come and worship with us. Our vision is “To advance the Kingdom of God, to the glory of God in Christ Jesus; by the Word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Our Mission is to equip and empower every person to become the sons and daughters that God created them to be, fulfilling their divine purpose concerning themselves, their families, and communities. Our mission also includes advancing the Kingdom of God by ministering to the whole person; sprit, soul, and body. Through the Word of God we will use prayer and the love of Christ Jesus guided by the holy Spirit.
Lovells Chapel Church began April 1, 2010 at Sister Rebecca Hampton’s Beauty Salon on Joyce Drive in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina. The Western North Carolina Conference faulted on the agreement and locked the doors at 317 N. Depot Street, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina. We gathered a few items from the church building with the blessed assurance that we would return soon. We soon realized that we were operating on God’s time and not our own time. On April 1, 2010 we had our first meeting and prayer service. Being guided by the Holy Spirit we named our new church the “Upper Room”. Minister Prelette McDowell Tillman became our pastor. On Sunday April 4, 2010 Minister Tillman preached our first sermon entitled, “Hand Picked by God”. There was a great deal of preaching, praying, singing, fasting, and planning in the Upper Room. Our theme scripture was taken from Joshua 1:8. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Reverend J. K. Best accepted our invitation to preach our Father’s Day Service for us on June 20, 2010. On June 27, 2010 Pastor J. K. Best accepted the position as pastor of Lovells Chapel Church Nondenominational (Upper Room), which was renamed from Lovells Chapel United Methodist Church. We continued to put our trust in the Lord and lean not own our own understanding believing God to direct our path. Pastor Best had a vision for the church and God’s people. It was time to make a Godly choice. We moved from the Upper Room to a larger facility on October 2, 2010. We held our first worship service under the new leadership of Pastor J. K. Best at 204-A East Main Street, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina.
Brother Robert Hampton, our church treasurer met with a team of financial leaders from the Western NC Conference and after three years, the conference asked if we wanted to purchase the church building on Depot Street. A confirmation letter was received on May 24, 2013 stating that we could purchase the church. On May 28, 2013 Brother Hampton, as church representative, gave the Western NC Conference a check for the full asking price as negotiated making us owners of the property with a clear deed. We met Brother Hampton at the church and he cut the chains off the doors and unlocked the church. We praised God with a joyful noise. Carolyn Boyles, former Pilot Mountain Town Commissioner, met with us as we celebrated the goodness of the Lord and gave us a sizable Our Community Celebration was held on September 22, 2013. A host of friends and supporters were present to help us give God glory for His powerful work. The current mayor at that time, Earl Shephard, Commissioners Linda Needham and Cordie East Armstrong were among the community supporters for the celebration. Bishop Tony O. Carter was a pulpit guest and our very own Pastor J. K. Best preached a dynamic sermon about the Move of God.
Lovells Chapel Church continued to move forward under the leadership of Pastor J. K. Best and Lady Doris Best. Reverend Cecil Thompson made us aware that the property at 231 North South Street was available for purchase. Trustees Brother Alphonso Tillman, Sister Linda Thompson, and Pastor J. K. Best worked diligently with bank officials and purchased the new campus at 321 North South Street in Mount Airy, North Carolina which is now called Lovells Chapel International Ministries.
Lovells Chapel Church, Inc. is a church of PURPOSE with every expectation of FULFILLING our DESTINY with the help of the HOLY SPIRIT. We celebrate the faithfulness of our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. Pastor J. K. Best reminds us that we are moving forward to advance the Kingdom of God.
As we move forward on this Christian journey, we will hold in our hearts the words God told Abram in Genesis 13:14-15. “Lift your eyes now and look from this place where you are-northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your
